Where Love, Loyalty, and Legacy Begin
Welcome to Best Buddies Border Collies. We’re Gayle and Peter—retired farmers, proud parents, and lifelong dog lovers. Our story is simple, heartfelt, and full of four-legged joy. Together, we’ve dedicated our retirement to breeding Border Collies with exceptional temperament, gentle natures, and boundless loyalty.
A Bit About Our Life Before Best Buddies
Before becoming breeders, Peter and I spent many years growing small crops and working our cane farm. Life was busy, simple, and community-focused. We raised two children, supported their passions in athletics and cycling, and made the most of rural living. Through it all, one thing remained constant—our deep love and appreciation for Border Collies. We both grew up with them and always knew they’d be part of our family’s future.
The Beginning: From SPIKE to Best Buddies
When our children were young, we decided it was time to add a furry companion to the mix. That’s when Spike joined our family. He brought with him a depth of love we’ll never forget. As the kids grew and eventually left home, Spike seemed to miss the noise and fun—so we found him a friend: Buster.
Then along came Smokey and Misty, and everything changed. Their arrival sparked something beautiful. That spark became Best Buddies Border Collies.
Why We Do What We Do
We officially began our breeding journey in 2017. Retired and with plenty of love (and time!) to give, we poured our energy into building something meaningful—a place where dogs are cherished, and families can find not just a pet, but a true companion.
We don’t see our Border Collies as “stock” or “litters”—they’re our buddies, every one of them. We breed for temperament first, followed closely by health and intelligence. Every dog we bring home is DNA tested, ensuring we can raise healthy, strong puppies with excellent lineage and traits.
Life on Our 30 Acres
In 2020, we moved to a beautiful 30-acre property in South Kolan, just 20 minutes from Bundaberg. It’s the perfect home for our Border Collies—plenty of room to run, play, and explore, while still having full access to our house. Whether it’s sunbathing in the paddock or curling up at our feet, our dogs are free to be part of our lives, all day long.
We’re proud to offer an environment that’s safe, spacious, and full of love. Our Border Collies are raised in a family atmosphere, not in kennels or cages. They receive daily enrichment, socialization, and yes—cuddles on demand.
More Than a Puppy—A Partner for Life
Our goal is to raise Border Collies that thrive in their new homes—whether you’re looking for a loyal family dog, an agility champ, or just a best friend. Every puppy from Best Buddies Border Collies is a reflection of our care, commitment, and the loving legacy left by Spike.
We are always here to support our families, whether it’s advice on training, feeding, or helping match you with the right pup for your lifestyle. We take pride in the relationships we build with each new puppy family, many of whom stay in touch for years after adoption.
A Legacy of Love
With a heavy heart, we said goodbye to our beloved Spike in October 2019, after an incredible 18 years of unconditional love. He was more than our first family dog—he was the beginning of something special. His calm nature, loyal heart, and intelligent spark live on in every puppy we raise.
Spike’s legacy isn’t just in our bloodlines. It’s in our philosophy, our home, and the love we pass on to every new Best Buddies family.
